In August 1905 13 synagogues were entirely destroyed in a single night in the Great Fire (Harik-i Kebir).
Therefore, by an imperial order on January 6, 1906, the construction of the Big Synagogue was permitted in the neighborhood where Mayor and Polya Synagogues used to reside.
This synagogue was built by the French Architect France Depre, taking the Vienna Synagogue as an example. The building was opened to worship under the name of Kal Kadosh Ha Gadol (Sacred Big Synagogue) in 1907.
Since it was a small Jewish community in Edirne, the General Directorate of Foundations restored the damaged synagogue.
